WE DID IT!!
We had a great morning waking up to an oatmeal breakfast, spot of coffee and water. It was chilly but as we made our way down to monument ave the sun shined and it warmed up quick. Jill and I met up with her neighbors Brita and Eric and we hopped in the huge crowd of 24000+ people. We jumped, stretched and started to get pumped. I wasn't really nervous at all. Then the gun went off and we started running, and running, and running. Brita and Eric are very good runners and they took off - couldn't see them anymore. Jill and I stuck together for a bit and then I lost her turning the bend in the first mile. I thought a lot while I was running. I watched people runinng past me and I got frustrated then laughed at myself but then in mile four I found myself getting frustrated again and running faster - this happened in waves. In the third mile after passing up all water handout until that point I promised myself a cup of water in which I should have practiced because I'm sure I soaked the poor girl handing the first cup out to me - I ran past grabbing, cup slipping out of hand and saying sorry to a girl smiling and saying good luck! ugh... do I dare try for another? OK, grab water - Have you EVER tried to drink and run from a freakin dixie cup??? Water poured down to my running shoes and I gulped air. ugh! third times a charm! Grab water, walk fast and drink, take long sleeve shirt off and wrap around waist and then run! I did it! OK - my focus was back to running. During mile five I thought about my Dad and how strong he was and it was so amazing how intense of a feeling I had that he was there running with us and he was proud. Mile six people on the both sides of the road got thicker and people were cheering loud and even looking into my eyes and I knew my sister had already finished and I couldn't wait to see her, my legs were still moving and I had .2 miles left and then i could see the finish line! I picked up my speed even if it was just to make it over the line and it felt great! I ran 6.2 miles! And just when I was dreading looking for my sister in the crowd, she jumps out of the side lines and slaps my shoulder saying, "YOU DID IT!" We hugged and we were so proud of each other. It was the best feeling! Jill had an awesome race! It won't be my last.

MARCH 31, 2007 I'm registered and I'm going to run my first race with my sister, Jill! Cancer took my Dad's life in 2001 but his smile shines through all of us. I think of him every day and I know he is going to help me train and finish this 10K! We'll also being honoring Jill's husband, Nate, a survivor of Hodgkin's. If we continue to raise money and educate about cancer we'll have more and more survivors and less people with cancer. Help me race to a cure! I have signed up to run in this year's Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k and have decided to participate in the pledge program, benefiting the VCU Massey Cancer Center. I hope that you will consider making a donation in support of my participation. Hope starts here...with us! You can donate online by clicking on the link below and visiting my personal donation page. Hello Everyone!
This past weekend I ran 6 miles in an hour and 11 mins. (Big relief!) I did two hills so my quads are hurting a bit this morning but other than that I feel great! Couple more of those before the race and my confidence will be sky high! We had awesome running weather this weekend too. Spring is coming! I wanted to thank everyone that has donated so far!

HELLO!
It has been incredibly cold here and I was stressing about my training since I don't have a treadmill and the cold will freeze my lungs inducing asthma, BUT I made a friend at work and she gets me in the gym during lunch to use the treadmill. As a contractor I don't have access on my tag key thingy. Best part is - she is running/training for the same race in Richmond - how cool is that! - Thanks Suzanne! My asthma has been bugging me and my sister kicked me in the butt to go see a doctor so I have a docs appt Feb 21 to get that all straighten out. I'm up to 2.5 miles and I still have seven weeks. I'm not worried about getting up to 6 miles. I want to thank everyone for their donations and well wishes! Total donations to date: $350!!!! Jill has been training too and I know she can kick out 6 miles no problem. She rocks!

Troy and I have been enjoying being each other's fiancé - although we haven't used that "term" yet. My mom has been trying out "bride to be" over the phone while talking to me and it makes my eyes open really big. I guess I think it is a bit silly or perhaps I just like the engagement stage right now. No date set yet. I've been kicking around some ideas with Mom, Jill and close friends about color, dresses and tux - the fashionista in me! I have some anxiety particularly about my dad not being there for those moments you want him there during your wedding and that might take some time to work through. And Troy and I have been kicking around those ideas too. I've been bringing them up slowly so not to overwhelm him. HA-HA! He wants to be involved and help me plan and I think that is way cool!

Troy has been very, very busy with his work and work at house. He is re-finishing our office/guest room. I will have pics of that one day soon. This weekend we're going to sand floors. Then paint during the week. I've been helping him on little things but this week I started some major OT at work and haven't been as helpful on the room, but I do make great dinners and laundry!! :) The room is looking so good all primed and warm with the new installation. Thanks Troy!
So...as my engagement ring sparkles at me as I type this I just wanted to say have a great weekend. Stay warm!
Here are some fun pics sent to me through the week!
Silas and Stella

I'm so adorably cool that you want to squeeze me Silas

Stella affectionately refers to her brother as the "Drool Monster"...

And my mother's husband, Don - yes he dresses like this ALL of the TIME

just joking...

Love YA!
